Jurassic Golf
GOAL
This poor dinosaur does not have any arms! Please help it to throw its eggs into its nest, by roaring on them (RAW!).
This game is a tribute to the minigolf game from Wario Land 3.
The ultimate goal is to finish 10 levels by roaring the less as possible.
SCREEN INFORMATION
DINOSAURS & RAW
You can choose between three dinosaurs:
Putterosaurus
Can't throw the egg far away, but is very precise.
Wedgeirus
Can throw the egg to a raisonnable distance, and is quite precise.
Driveraptor
Can throw the egg very far away, but is not very precise.
A roar is done in three steps:
- To init a roar, click on the "Start" button: the cursor will start to move on the "Raw power" bar;
- Click once again on the button to set the "power" of your roar: it'll determine the distance of your egg. If the cursor goes to the far right of the bar, you loose one try!
- Click one last time when the cursor is on the left area of the "Raw power" bar to stop it.
If it ends on the green square, your egg will move to the exact distance set by the first cursor.
If it ends on the left blue area, its distance will be decreased by 1.
If it ends on the right blue area, its distance will be increased by 1.
If the cursor goes to the far left of the bar, you loose one try!
OBSTACLES
If you aren't precise enough, your egg can be dropped into some obstacles...
Bunker
The sand disabled the max distance of your dinosaur. If you try to set the power to the max despite of all, you will loose one try. It also has some impact on the cursors speed!
Rough
The grass makes us difficult to see the cursors below the "Raw power" bar. It also has some impact on the cursors speed!
Water
You loose one try and the egg goes back to its previous position.
CREDITS
As said in the intro of this page, this game is a tribute to the minigolf game from Wario Land 3.
A really big thanks to @KenneyNL for a lot of graphical and audio assets: most tiles in this game are edited versions (from myself) to its wonderful work.
The dinosaur (and egg) sprites are edited versions (from myself) to a cute spritesheet from @DemChing.
The background music is from this music pack, by @phoenix1291.
The whole code is in pure CSS and VanillaJS, no framework involved.
That's said, it's based on a mini-library on my own (that I've built during the development of this game). I'll probably open source it on GitHub some day (when it'll be cleaner :p).
Will you beat my own score?

Not sure I would have had a clue how to play this without your tutorial image above - but with that, this is compelling and really fun! I made it all the way to the nest - would have loved some kind of game over animation or something :)
I tried my best to polish as much as possible, but times up ^^' A tutorial is clearly missing, I may add one after the jam.
Thanks for your feedback :)
I like the feeling of the raw power system, it's the right amount of challenge! art is so fine and the whole feel of the game is on point.
Thank you so much for this nice feedback :)
Great game! Was frustrating at the start until I realised the button triggers on up (at least if using mouse), which was why my perfect clicks always missed. If intended for difficulty all good, otherwise maybe consider trigger on down.
It's indeed a click event, not a mousedown. I even didn't think to listen for mousedown, thanks for the suggestion!
This game is very well presented, the art style is great and the overall theme is very well suiting. As mentioned by the other user, it's a bit hard to get the controls at the start, so, I would recommend you to keep a small quick tutorial at the start to make the user's life easy. As a Jam game, I appreciate the game as it is, so well done.
It would be great to check your upcoming projects ahead of time. All the best!
I have some plans for this game after the jam, and a tutorial could be indeed great to have.
Thanks a lot for your nice feedback :)
Yeah, that sounds great!
Wow I love this! I hated this minigame in Wario Land 3 as a kid because I didn't get the controls, but when I got the hang of it, it became one of my favorite part. It was such a creative little minigame hidden inside an already brilliant game.
Wario Land 3 was such a gem <3
Thanks for playing my game and for taking the time to write your comment!
